Glu Games' Tons of Guns would have been better off as a free-roaming first-person shooter, or at the very least, an on-rails action game similar to Namco Bandai's Time Crisis.
Instead, the publisher went with a series of one-on-one gunfights where the goal is to kill your adversary without the benefit of cover or health pick-ups.
With little plot to speak of, this free-to-play blast-fest turns into a mindless race to acquire/upgrade more powerful weapons while slaughtering bozos.
There are cool ideas, starting with the reloading sequences. Automatic rifles, shotguns and some handguns each possess unique touch screen reloads that require you to tap twice to load a double-barreled shotgun, for example, or swipe left to yank out an empty machine gun clip and swipe right to insert a new one.
